Science Week

Year 1 started off the week entering the Science Dome which was set up in the hall.  The Science Dome is designed to explore science, geology and geography in an interactive way.  All the children enjoyed learning about the planets, stars and famous astronaunt.

Throughout the week the children had space station role plays in their classrooms and made star shaped biscuits and peppermint creams.  In their literacy lessons they wrote letters to NASA, explaining why they would make a brilliant astronaut.  They also made 3d rockets to take them on their new, exciting adventure to outer space!

We have all enjoyed using the new chrome books in class.  We have been using a website called teach your monster to read to help us with our phonics.

In PE we have been creating our own dances.  We created a firework dance to "Firework" by Katie Perry.

Sports Day

They all enjoyed taking part in a variety of races including an obstacle race, sprinting, a sack race and an egg and spoon race.  The final race was the highly competitive class relay - which was won by Hedgehogs Class!

Sayers Croft

Year 1 were very excited as they were going on their school trip to Sayers Croft in Cranleigh.  We all had a wonderful time pond dipping, going on a minibeat hunt and taking part in an orienteering session around the centre.  The sun shone all day and all the children were beautifully behaved. We want to thank the parent volunteers, and the staff at Sayer’s Croft for the wonderful day!

African Art Topic

Arctic Pictures

Koala class imagined that we were explorers that had an expedition to the Arctic. We packed our bags, travelled on a ship and got stuck in the ice! The children had to help each other across the thin, dangerous ice and set up camp. They fished for food, and searched for polar bears!

Great Fire of London Burning

Children designed and created Tudor houses using cereal boxes and paper. After learning about the Great Fire of London we recreated the street where the fire began, and watched the fire spread through the houses. We discussed why the fire spread so quickly and what people would have to do to escape!
